SHANNON SALYER
Shannon is a native of western Virginia who has a special interest in shohin and mame bonsai. These are the smallest bonsai size classifications. He operates a small business of his own plus a growing bonsai vending and nursery operation in Tennessee. He has exhibited at the US National Exhibition and other important bonsai events. Shannon has studied bonsai continually since he was very young. I first met him when he was a high school student and came to visit my nursery. In addition to his involvement in US bonsai, he has traveled to Japan to study the art of bonsai at exhibitions and gardens in Japan. Shannon’s has much to share with us.
The morning lecture demonstration will feature Shannon creating a tiny forest using trident maples. Active participants in the afternoon workshop will create their own tiny forest with Shannon’s guidance. The forests will be planted on small slabs, about 6” x10”. If you have an interesting slate or flat stone to use, please bring it. Ceramic tiles will be provided for those who do not have a slab of their own. Shannon will provide small tridents to create the forest. There will be a $3 per plant charge for the trees used.in your creation. The number used will be a personal choice. Payment for trees will be directly to Shannon.
