SPRING SYMPOSIUM '20

 BLACK PINE BONSAI

FEATURING

WILLIAM N. VALAVANIS

Bill Valavanis is one of North America's most highly regarded bonsai artists and is the only living member of the bonsai Hall of Fame. At his International Bonsai Arboretum in Rochester, NY, Bill maintains a magnificent bonsai collection, teaches bonsai, and publishes "International Bonsai", a top quality bonsai magazine. In addition to his activities in Rochester, Bill is a much sought after teacher and lecturer who is regularly featured at major bonsai gatherings all over the world. CVBS is pleased to again sponsor his appearance in Lynchburg.

This year we will have a two part program. The morning portion will be a presentation and demonstration on black pine bonsai. This part will focus on the fundamentals of using black pine for bonsai. The principles discussed will be useful in all bonsai design. In the morning program, Bill will demonstrate creating a bonsai using nice black pine material. With Bill's assistance, afternoon workshop participants will create and take home their own black pine bonsai. Workshop material will be excellent for small bonsai. Trunks are fat at the base, nicely tapered, gnarly barked, with many thin easy to wire branches. Results should be excellent.  Please bring your own tools and wire for the afternoon workshop. No potting will be done. All registrants are welcome as silent observers in the afternoon workshop. An additional fee will be charged for active participants in the workshop. The presentations and workshop will be inspirational to the expert but not intimidating to the beginner. Members are encouraged to bring a tree for exhibit.

Bill is one of the most effective and enthusiastic bonsai teachers in the world today.  Don't miss this opportunity to study with him. The public is welcome at all events.  REGISTER EARLY TO ASSURE WORKSHOP PARTICIPATION. Registration fee(s) are charged to defray costs of Spring '20. All proceeds support this and other CVBS events.
